From September 1 to October 15, we encourage Triangle commuters to try an alternative commute (not driving alone) to work or campus such as riding the bus, carpooling, vanpooling, teleworking, biking, or walking.

How do I begin to SmartCommute?
You can learn how to smart commute by visiting the “Help me, I’m new” section on All the resources you need for changing your commute – from signing up for ride matching to seeing most used cycling paths – are there!

Will I be entered into the prize drawing after I sign up for the Challenge?
No. This year, we’re asking people to track at least one trip in our online calendar by October 15th to be eligible for prizes.

Can I track any trip to win prizes?
No, you must track your commute to work by using one of the following modes:
  • • Bus
  • • Train
  • • Carpool / Vanpool
  • • Bike / Electric Bike / Scooter
  • • Walk / Jog / Skate
  • • Telework / Telecommute
  • • Compressed Work Week

Can anyone who tracks a trip win?
Only employees and college students (18 years or older) who live or work within Durham, Orange or Wake counties, or within the Research Triangle Park, are eligible to win.

Do I have to provide an email address to win?
Yes, our trip-tracking system requires that you have an email address to confirm your registration. If you do not currently have one, check out Google’s free gmail account.

What if I’m not available when you contact me about winning?
We will try to contact winners by email and phone (if phone number is provided in trip-tracking profile). If we cannot get in touch within 30 days, another winner will be selected.

What if I don’t want to win a prize?
If you just want to track trips to see your emission and gas savings, you can simply decline the prize when we contact you about winning.

With what you save when you GoSmart, you can go anywhere.
